A stunning stretch of the Suffolk coast - enjoy quiet countryside, heaths, cliffs and marshes where wildlife abounds plus the fashionable elegance and gentle nostalgia of charming seaside towns such as Southwold and Aldeburgh.
For your accommodation we’ve chosen two very comfortable hotels in these special oh- so -Suffolk seaside towns. Both offer good food and there are plenty of opportunities to sample the local brew nearby too.
Please note : the price of this tour includes dinner on the night at Southwold (either table d'hôte or £30 per person allowance against la carte) and transfer from Snape back to Southwold (or to a station).

Day One – Arrive & explore
Arrive at your hotel in Southwold (by car or train and taxi) in time for lunch and spend the afternoon exploring the rows of pantiled cottages and broad greens of the town. Alternatively, follow the beach path up to Covehithe where the melancholic ruins of an enormous church face out to the sea and a roadway ends abruptly on the cliff top.
Mileage: Min 0 Max 9 Overnight: Southwold
Day Two – From beach huts to fishingboats
Walking down to Southwold Harbour you’ll cross the River Blyth (by small ferry in summer) and head through reedbeds to Dunwich, once the capital of East Anglia, now lost under the waves. Across the heather clad Dunwich Heath you reach the RSPB reserve at Minsmere and then, hugging the coast you’ll reach Sizewell. Southwards, walking along the cliffs is Thorpeness, a complete holiday village built in 1910 around its own manmade boating lake. The House is the Clouds is the quirky landmark here. The last stretch takes you along the beach path past the famous Scallop sculpture to the elegant resort of Aldeburgh where you’ll spend the night.

Mileage: Min 15 Max 15 Overnight: Aldeburgh
Day Three - Creeks & concert halls
Today, you can choose to drink in the charm of Aldeburgh and take an optional walk to Snape Maltings, home of the Aldeburgh Festival situated on the banks of the river Alde. A taxi will return you to Southwold (or Saxmundham Railway Station).
